Texas A&M Johnny Manziel : NFL 2014 Draft Prediction

2014 NFL Draft Prediction : Top 5 Picks

1. Houston -- Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M 
This much is certainly true in mid-February: We don't know yet whether new Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is sold on Manziel's improvisational approach to quarterbacking, with its live-on-the-edge style of play making. But we also don't know for certain that O'Brien has to have a traditional pocket passer to run his offense and that he wouldn't come to appreciate Manziel's ability to keep plays alive with his legs, forcing teams to defend him from sideline to sideline. I would think that the dual-threat success of Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton in recent years has done nothing but help endorse Manziel's unconventional game. Perhaps, as the scouting season wears on, Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, UCF quarterback Blake Bortles or South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will emerge as talents too great to pass up, or Manziel's maturity issues will scare away owner Bob McNair and a Houston organization that isn't known for risk-taking. But the home state hero Manziel has that "it'' factor, and the Texans have tried the more mechanical-type quarterback (Matt Schaub) without Super Bowl success. For now, Manziel and the Texans are a marriage too intriguing to ignore.

2. St. Louis -- Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M 
The Rams obviously will be willing to trade away this slot to a quarterback-needy team, which is fitting since it's the last bit of draft capital St. Louis wrung out of Washington in the blockbuster Robert Griffin III deal two years ago. But if the Rams stick to this spot, offensive tackle is the obvious need, with Jake Long having suffered a late-season ACL in 2013, and both Rodger Saffold and Chris Williams eligible for free agency. Many mocks have Auburn's freakishly gifted Greg Robinson in this slot, but Matthews is clearly the most pro-ready tackle in the draft, and Jeff Fisher's decades-long history with Jake Matthews' famous father -- Hall of Fame Oilers/Titans offensive lineman/assistant coach Bruce Matthews -- has to be factored into the equation. But Matthews isn't just the safest choice, he's a top-five talent who will give the Rams exactly what they need from Day 1, whether he starts at right or left tackle.

3. Jacksonville -- Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina 
Passing on a quarterback such as Teddy Bridgewater or Blake Bortles (or Manziel if he's still on the board) may not help the Jaguars maximize their 2014 potential, but if Clowney fulfills his potential to become the league's dominant pass rusher, the pick will look shrewd in hindsight and help address a glaring need that Jacksonville has been trying to fill for years now. Clowney could be the centerpiece for the defensive upgrade that Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley seeks, in much the same way that his former team, the Seahawks, built on that side of the ball before turning their focus to offense.

4. Cleveland -- Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville 
The Browns could finally experience some first-round good fortune at quarterback, should they find Bridgewater waiting for them. The Cardinals' star is the most accurate and accomplished passer in this draft, and he is seen as the cleanest pro prospect among all the QB hopefuls. After Brandon Weeden and all those who came before him in Cleveland, accuracy in the passing game is something Browns fans could get used to. In this scenario, Cleveland will have its choice between Bridgewater's superb touch and command of a pro-style passing game, or the sturdier size and pocket-style quarterbacking of UCF's Bortles, who some scouts think has the most NFL upside.

5. Oakland -- Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida 
With head coach Dennis Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie both entering a prove-it year, the Raiders aren't going to sign up for another season of just Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin at quarterback. Bortles may not be polished enough to become the instant starter in Oakland, but his prototypical NFL size combined with his mobility make him the quarterback who has gathered the most draft momentum in recent months.

 If you don't know who Johnny Manziel is, he is the first freshman (first year undergraduate) ever to win the Heisman Trophy. Also known by his nickname, Johnny Football, is an American football quarterback for the Texas A&M Aggies (my grad school). He is the main and only reason I love to watch American Football or College Football, he is an electric athlete, much like our Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya. Much buzz about him these days because of several of his off-season behaviors which you can read in his wikipedia profile.  There going to be a major twitter buzz this September 14th the most anticipated college football game of the year between Texas A&M and Alabama, because Manziel was launched into the national scene after he led Texas A&M to a 29–24 upset over #1 Alabama University during last 2012 season. We were the only team to beat Alabama before they got into BCS national title during 2012 season.

This is the best comment I see so far about Johnny Manziel. Here's the comment I talked about, sorry I was so distracted :)

I've yet to see this kid do anything which would cause me great concern as a parent or coach unless the autograph thing turns into something more. However, they basically said he can't sign for anyone's benefit other than the NCAA and the school. They don't want him to sprain his signing hand since they have 1000 items for him to sign which will go to boosters who give money. He showed bad judgment drinking underage and having a fake ID. If he were Norm Johnson, 20 year old science major, then it wouldn't be anything to anyone other than his parents. I had a fake ID at 20 with my mother's knowledge and approval. He tweeted after getting his car keyed. Kids need to learn that not every thought needs to be put on the internet, but that is the thing now. I'm hope he will grow out of it, but many pros haven't figured that one out yet. He went to a NBA game...moving on, nothing to see here. He went to a party at another school and someone else acted like an A hole. Big news ESPN, glad you scooped the country on that one. He got a penalty after being taunted before he even got in the game. I don't blame him. You won so you don't have to listen to their BS. In the end he is 20 and not showing great maturity. I don't know how many people in his position regardless of age would handle his instant celebrity well. I hope he learns how to handle the 24 hour scrutiny ESPN puts on him. It really isn't fair to him. Most people with this attention have the resources to get away from it all. While his family has money, he isn't making a living doing this and is one of the first college players getting the paparazzi treatment. If he gets away from it ESPN will report how he went to a private resort and wonder if he is getting something for free. This kid isn't the devil many on here are portraying him to be. He is a typical college kid under a microscope which most of those complaining about him couldn't handle now let along in college.

Today I checked the ESPN SportsNation poll "How should Texas A&M handle the NCAA's investigation of Johnny Manziel?" and Oklahoma says sit him? Whats wrong with you Oklahoma?

It seems like today (Wednesday) is the D-day. The good news for A&M is that the NCAA should have a decision soon. According to John Lopez of AM 610 in Houston, the NCAA will give a recommendation on what A&M should do with Manziel on Wednesday.

T20 Cricket World Cup - My Predictions for Semi and Finals

I'm looking at the live match of the T20 Cricket World Cup Group 2 between India and Australia. Seems to me, Australia is winning, at least they are somewhere in gettable 140 mark in after Indian innings. So far, Sri Lanka and West Indies are ahead in the Group 1 standings and probably Pakistan cricket team and Australia going to be on top of Group 2.

Time for me to do some predictions for the Semi Finals and Final match. I don't really go with the statistics of previous matches or current matches and rankings. I have never played Cricket for my school team nor I did play any professional cricket. I'm just another hearty cricket spectator (tennis ball) like anyone else, who gets up even mid night to watch a match (if only Sri Lanka is playing) even it is 5 day test (all day) or One Day International Cricket. I'm on the other side of the world, still I pretty much addicted to this  game like any other subcontinent spectator. I don't really an extreme cricket lover by the way, I don't fancy to buy an expensive ticket to go and watch live in the ground. I'm pretty much in my comfort zone, in front of TV or here in US, in front of my laptop (5am in the morning US Central time) watching the live streaming thanks to ESPN. I pretty much love the fact that I can see the replays and listen to the commentators than the loud and live experience in the cricket ground.

OK, enough rambling, time to go back to predictions :)

This is what I like about Sri Lankan Cricket…….simple, fun and no aggression at all……..People, Players, and everybody around enjoying the movement. If we lose the match, that’s not the end of the world,

we never throw stones at cricketers homes,

we never throw stuff to the ground (including bottles, trash, bill boards….) when the other team is winning,

we never lit things and try to burn the anger due to a lost…….

we used to say “those buggers lost……what to do……they are not good now……….may be next match……..”. That’s all………..that’s what we called Island Cricket………

Here’s a remarkable piece of fielding by Angelo Mathews, a definite six, or may be a four, but finally it was unimaginable react and stop by young cricketer. Great job…………thumbs up, Sri Lankan cricket…………..

Cant believe how much people love to talk about ICC world cup (though they are out of country). When I'm on the University shuttle bus after my work at International Office, when I get on to it, Driver asked me "where u from?" I said Sri Lanka. So he was really happy and get started talking abt ICC world cup. I was shocked, American talking abt Cricket ? na .......not possible. Guess what, he is from West Indies and then there was another girl, she said she is from South African......suddenly we felt like a family bond by Cricket, talking with each other while the guy was driving ;) what a nice time. Just a 5 minutes ride to my apartments but feels like actually watching a Cricket match. Girl was really upset and said better if she can buy a channel to watch the entire world cup. And I just said we have some free online streaming sites to watch. They cant belive, specially the bus driver was so anxious to know the site. I know all my readers also wanna know this. I watched 2 games on this link, quality is really really good........and no interruption at all, like satellite picture on television. Cant believe this much of achievement on this. I know what the streaming is when I checked the other links. But this one is truly exceptional.....so here's my gratitude again for the link and for the author Rahul.

India and Pakistan, the giants in world cricket world, OUT from the second round. Can't believe. This salute for youngsters, Upul Tharanga, Chamara Silva and Dilshan, in the Sri Lankan team, thanx guys and hope u can continue ur form for the rest of the matches......specially with the # 01 South African and Auzis........Beware of Sri Lanka. I'm still not sure about the selection of the Dilhara Fernando?? Though he got the fantastic Sachin Thendulkars wicket, he's not in a good shape to face for good teams specially Auzis and South Africa. These teams are pretty good on fast bowling especially if you are not in good line and length. So I doubt selecting Dihara instead of Atapattu or Maharoof. We need someone like Maharoof to tackle the back of the innings specially we need some big sloggers like Sanath, Vass or Murali (scared on fast bowlers though)
Currently Sri Lanka is on the top with highest run rate hope they can maintain this through out the super 8 round. There is no advantage on the bonus points b'se all the others have similar advantage on playing with Bangladesh and earn some extra points. We have Ireland OK.....but need to get rid of West Indies and England from the list. Here is my semi finalists

Most probably we are having the semi final with West Indies and Finals (if everything happened for the best) with New Zealand.

Yesterday the awesome Sri Lankan Cricket team struck against the World Champion Ausies. The master blaster Sana slogs for maximum 114 of only 94 balls. Its really glad to see the team is back on track. Throughout the day, all the ppl gathered around the Jayathilaka cafeteria TV, they cheered for the Sri Lankan victory. I also had no work till 2pm just hang on to the TV, afterward I had to be at American College till 6pm on lecturing for the Diploma Class. At that time also I just stick in to the web to see how the Ausies going to followed on to get the mighty total runs of 309 put on the score by Sri Lankans. Funny thing was, when I was at American college, I saw one of minor staff guy who is eagerly listen to a pocket radio and I just asked him the cricket score, after that every 30min time he came to my class room and informed me the match status of the sri lankan team.
